1. I LOOOOVE PIZZA!! I could eat a different kind everyday. And I much prefer thin crust.
2. I want to be a photographer. But I really need some lessons. Hubby bought me this fancy camera and I haven’t really used it to its full potential. I have done a few gigs, but nothing serious. I really want to be a photographer. (Photography was one of the reasons that I started my blog)
3. My husband is so special! He is a wonderful man that I totally adore. No matter what happens in my life that man is super supportive. I love my husband!
4. I want to have a closer relationship with GOD. – nuff said.
5. I want my mother to go to a doctor’s appointment. She hasn’t been in a long time. (oops, that wasn’t about me.. oh well)
6. I LOVE going on vacation…and I LOVE coming home.
7. I try really hard to be a positive person and live my life as an example for others. (But ofcourse I am human, so I don’t always get it right)

Memphis in Photos - April 2010

FINALLY - I am able to give you my Memphis Trip in PHOTOS!!! I know its taken me almost a whole week to do this post, but there were over 400 pics that we took, and I still didnt even get the best ones.. But I wanted you all to see my outfits (a few of which were duds) and view all the amazing experiences that we had too.. so, here goes!

THURSDAY
We arrived in Memphis early in the morning. The first stop was the National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Hotel.

The National Civil Rights Museum was amazing. They have truly taken alot of time to really teach about the civil rights movement and how it started and then sadly ended in Memphis in April. Actually, Dr King was assasinated on April 4 and the museum was preparing for a special dedication. The entire experience was very motivating although it was a sad time in American history.

Our lunch was a stop that we found from The FoodNetwork Show - Diners, DriveIns and Dives. This little place called Alcenia's was a dream! The food was delicious and the hospitality was so sweet. It was like having dinner in your grandma's dinning room. All of our food was delicious and freshly made to order.

The last stop for the evening was.. the ducks~ We went to The Peabody Hotel to watch the "marching of the ducks" There is plenty of ritual to this experience and a lenghty history that you can read here if you wish. But it was cute, and definitely an experience to be striked from the bucket list, lol!

FRIDAY
Well, the next day we were off to see the other "king" of Memphis- Elvis Presley. I had mixed thoughts about what this tour was going to be like. But the main reason that we selected Memphis was so that my aunt could get to Graceland. She is a huge Elvis fan, so this was a big dream of hers to get to Graceland.

(I wasnt to fond of this outfit, but it was very comfortable and even easier to pack which was great!)

Surprisingly Graceland was an amazing tour. It was like a Disneyland operation. And being in the midst of Graceland really evoked an era and time goneby. It was like Elvis died, and then people just started touring his home the next day. Everything was exactly the same and you were really close to alot of the artifacts. One of the biggest things that really intrigued me was the impact that Elvis had on so many people's lives. I have this one pic of his Racquetball Room that has been transformed into a shrine of sorts for many of his gold albums. Its massive and seeing all of this really made you think about how much larger than life Elvis really was... YUP, I felt good to be able to cross that off of my bucket list.. I saw Elvis!

Our next stop for the day was lunch/dinner. We went to another well known resturaunt from The Food Network, The Neely's. Their barbque is amazing. The only issue I had with them was that there wasnt many veggies on the menu. I cant eat all that meat, all the time. (But it sure was good while it lasted)


Ok, so the day was still not over after all of that. We went to an NBA Basketball game -
The Memphis Grizzlies vs. New Orleans Hornets.

I wasnt as excited about the actual basketball game. But the I do love live sports. There is something about the excitement in the air that gets me excited too. BUT, after the game, was a FREE CONCERT _ KIRK FRANKLIN!!! now that was exciting. We didnt know when we got the tickets that it would include a free concert, but it was so good. Kirk put on a really good show.
SATURDAY
Our last full day in Memphis, yup, we packed it with yet more things to do. We all wanted to see that new Tyler Perry Movie "Why Did I Get Married 2" and I thought it was pretty good. The theatre was packed, but my cousin and I are excellent at logistics, so we were in and out of there, no waiting in line and we got great seats. Its amazing how well we work together.

After the movie, we went to lunch at Texas de Brazil (another meat resturaunt, it was getting rough). The food was tasty, but I was done with eating all the meat. I was ready for some chicken, fish, seafood, or event a vegetarian dish! It was waaay to much for my stomach to process in one weekend. After we left the resturaunt, we walked down to the famous Beale Street. It was so lively and fun. There was plenty of shopping for junk and souvenirs to take home. All in all we had a fabulous time.
Sunday
We got up pretty early and we were home back in Bmore by 11am!

Laid-Back Nautical - Lucky Mag April 2010

Here is my take on one of the looks from the April edition of Lucky Magazine. BBM has been pulling a few of these looks together for the entire month, and I thought I would give it a whirl to see what I could do. I had seen the ad in the magazine and I thought it was a cute idea to try a few of these looks too, but I didnt do any, until BBM put out the challenge.

After looking through the magazine this weekend, I realized why I had not put any of these looks together.. I dont have any of these clothes to make these outfits. And I had not planned to buy anything new, especially since none of these items are on my "must buy" list. BUT, I pulled something together anyway. Not sure how many more looks I will be able to pull off, but we will see. :)

Sigma Weekend - 70th Chapter Anniversary (AAS)

My busy weekend was spent with my sorority sisters. This weekend marked the 70th Anniversary of the Graduate Chapter that I am a member of, Alpha Alpha Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority,Inc. So, to celebrate the weekend, there were all types of festivites including a public meeting and a Gala, that I did not attend. However, I did attend the Anniversary Breakfast and that was so much fun. I got to spend some time with members of the sorority who are much older than I and who have a wealth of knowledge about the organization. We sang some old songs and had a blast looking back at old photos (through a slide show) and just enjoyed each others company.

Ofcourse my little cousin was there as well. She was the one that invited me to this breakfast. It was really nice to spend time with her. These other two ladies are both good friends with my mother and aunts who are also sorors as well. These two were so delighted to see the legacy of our sorority continue in our family. They just kept asking everyone, "do you know who these two are" It was really cute. Im glad that we are a stellar example for our family sorority legacy.

After the breakfast, I stopped past my grandmother's house and spent the rest of the evening there. Here are a few pics of my little cousin playing in my wig, lol! She is soooo cute!

While I was there, a few of my other cousins came by, with their children. My grandparents were so delighted to have all of us around them. My grandma gave us granddaughters a cooking lesson, on making gravy and making fry cornbread. We recorded the whole thing, cuz it was priceless, lol!

These are a few shots of my cousin's daughter - Taylor. I give most of the great-grands and some of the younger cousins nicknames.. this little sweetie is named "LadyBug" and "Animal" (from the Muppets, yup, she acts just like that, lol)
The next morning, I attended the worship service for the 70th Chapter Anniversary.

The worship service was excellent. The pastor did a superb job of biblically explaining about our destiny and perserverance. If we settle in a place that is comfortable we will never reach our full potential of where we are destined to go. And its very possible that when we do decide to move to our new location, our destiny, that we will leave some folks behind who arent yet ready to move. They like it comfortable and the old way, the way it has alwyas been. But the biggest drawback of not moving to our destiny is that when we make a decision to stay where we are comfortable, we are stifling the growth of future generations as well. Because they are forced to stay where we have made them a home not knowing that there are greater things out there. AAAHH, it was an excellent sermon. (Genesis 11:27-32; 12:1-7)

My week in review!

Well, I am back ladies.. After a really nice vacation to Memphis,TN (which was awesome.. check back for a post on the weekend in pictures) I am finally back to blogging. I know I know.. I have been back a week and no blog posts until a week later, but I had to get back into the swing of things. You know, back to my routine!
